What is the CEED Exam?

CEED is an annual entrance exam for postgraduate studies in technological design. For admission to IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, IIT Delhi, IIT Jabalpur, IIT Kanpur and IISc Bangalore, CEED scores are considered. Industrial Design Centre and IIT Bombay conduct the examination.

 

What is the CEED Exam pattern?

CEED has changed its pattern since 2013. The paper now consists of two parts, A and B, as well as an interview.Part A is marked out of 50. It will test you on Visualisation and Spatial ability,Environmental and Social awareness,Analytical and Logical reasoning,Language and creativity,Design thinking and problem solving,Observation and design sensitivity. Part B will test you on drawing,creativity,Analytical and problem solving skills and Communication skills. They are the most time consuming parts of the paper.

 

What is the eligibility criteria for taking the CEED Exam?

The candidate must have completed a graduate or diploma program with a duration of 4-5 years, or must have passed the Graduate Diploma in Arts Programme.
Note- The exam is not age-restricted, and candidates can apply multiple times.

How does one prepare for the CEED studio test?

  1. You should prepare your portfolio so that the examiner can see your passion for design.
  2. Make sure you don't have similar themes or designs. Make your works more elaborate.
  3. The examiner can review Photoshop works, finished products, photography, 3D modelling, and documentation.
  4. The examiner will give lots of materials, you will have to come up with a product within a certain time:- newspapers, chart paper, pastel sheets, corrugated sheets, cardboard, mount board, Overhead Projector (OHP) sheet, gateway sheet, transparent sheet, wires of different thicknesses in copper and aluminium, clay, thermocol and its balls, soap(sometimes), ice cream sticks, fabric, threads of different thicknesses and materials, straws, ping pong balls, ribbons, cotton are some of the materials that you will end up getting.
  5. You should prepare the same way you did for the written exam. Get a sense of the topics. Even simple aptitude questions will be asked.
  6. Questions may be asked about design, creative exercises, and story writing.
