The NIFT entrance exam typically takes place in February each year. Candidates who are selected for admission into BDes and MDes programs based on their performance in the NIFT entrance test must then participate in the NIFT Situation Test/Group Discussion/Interview round.
After the NIFT results for all these admission stages are announced, the selected candidates are required to participate in the NIFT counselling round to secure their seats for admission in colleges that accept NIFT scores for admission.
NIFT counselling for candidates who successfully pass all stages of the entrance exam will be held in May/ June 2024.
Applicants are required to participate in the NIFT counseling round based on their NIFT entrance exam rank and the category they have chosen for admission. The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) organizes several counseling rounds across its 16 campuses.
The official NIFT website states: “The NIFT Head Office will oversee all Campuses and the Admission process will occur concurrently at all NIFT Campuses”.
To successfully participate in the NIFT counseling round for 2024 admissions, applicants must follow the steps outlined below.
Step 1: Sign up on the official NIFT website
To participate in the 2023 NIFT counseling process, applicants must register on the National Institute of Fashion Technology's official website by submitting their NIFT application form number, birth date, and password.
Step 2: Obtain the NIFT system-generated letter
Once applicants have successfully registered on the NIFT official website, they receive a system-generated letter that includes the Nodal Officer's details and a list of essential documents needed for NIFT counseling and admission. Candidates must bring the following documents in original and photocopies to the NIFT 2024 counseling:
S.No. Essential Documents for NIFT Counselling Round 2023

Candidates are advised that if any of the necessary documents for NIFT counseling are in a language other than Hindi/English, they must ensure that these documents are translated into English/Hindi. The translation must be confirmed by the "issuing institution/gazetted officer/Self-attested (original and photocopy) by the candidate at the time of Counselling / Admission", according to the official NIFT website. If a candidate does not provide the document with the necessary verified translation, their candidacy may be revoked.
Step 4: Participate in the NIFT Counselling session & have documents validated
On the counseling day, candidates are required to arrive at their designated NIFT counseling center promptly at 9:30 am. They must bring their documents and photocopies to the NIFT counseling center. The official NIFT website states, "All original certificates, except the medical certificate, will be given back to the candidate after verification."
Step 5: Participate in NIFT Seat Allocation Process
Once the document verification process is completed, candidates are required to participate in the NIFT seat allocation process. In this step, candidates must choose the college/seat by clicking on its name on a monitor under the supervision of the Nodal Officer for NIFT admissions 2024.
Step 6: Remit the Admission Fee
Subsequently, if a candidate is granted a seat for NIFT admission at any of the National Institutes of Fashion Technology campuses, they are required to pay the specified fee immediately.
The official site states: "Should a candidate neglect to pay the fee after a seat has been granted, the offer will be rescinded and the seat will be given to the next candidate in line on the merit list. Partial payments or payments made via cash/cheque will not be permitted under any conditions".
Step 7: Obtain Allotment Letter
After completing all the steps outlined above, the candidate is provided with an allotment letter or admission receipt, which is officially signed by the NIFT Campus's Nodal Officer. Once this receipt is in the candidate's possession, they are not allowed to make any changes to the course/campus they have chosen for admission.
